SEASON 5
Champions League
The Interview
Congratulations GENESIS - Champions League Season 5 winner.
Thank you all
How did it feel to win Champions League Season 5?
The feeling I have is gratitude. I consider myself very lucky to have found the group of guys we have here at Genesis and I am thankful for such great chemistry. We started from nothing not long before Season 5 began and have grown immensely together throughout the event. I hoped we would do well but never expected to come out as the champions in our first season. I can speak on behalf of everyone on the team when I say we really enjoyed sailing in Team League, and we'll definitely be back for Season 6.
What was your most memorable race in Season 5?
This one is easy; it was race 2 against Bucanieri in the Round Robin stages. Just under half way in to the race a countdown from 5 started in the chat; 5 .. 4 .. 3 .. 2 .. 1 .. and BAM, 5 of the 6 Bucanieri on the water disconnected from the server simultaneously, leaving only their host! It was so incredibly strange that we dedicated a chant "Bucaaa Bucaaa, NIERRIIII" in their honor.
It was your first participation in Team League, what you have to say about it?
We came a long way as a team in a relatively short period of time. Assembling only weeks before the event started, we did all of our growing as each stage of the event progressed. Genesis was a better team each week and the chemistry amongst the skippers here really heated up nicely. This event encourages the ability to get together with friends on TS, meet new people, and work together as a team to accomplish goals; we loved it.
Genesis is an example that anyone can make a Team and join TL with sucess, do you agree?
I agree 100%. I would recommend this event to anyone with Thursday evenings (CET) free. Creating your own team involves getting into servers and asking around to see who is interested, taking contact information and following up with potential teammates. Whether you want to create you own team like I did, or join a team looking for fresh meat is completely up to you, but I would definitely start planning an appearance in Season 6. Also, for those of you who already sail in Team League, maybe you know people who would be interested in trying it out!
Say what you want and i didn’t ask....?
I would like to thank Pista's Grandma for all of her support - lol. I would also like to mention a couple of key players: Afonso, my right hand man in the early stages of the creation of Genesis. Lumba (Dejan), our team tactician who has been a key part of our decision making on the water. Pistaxooo (Ignacio), and his ability to bring so much positivity and laughter to the TS channel. Snipe Por (Antonio) while giving his spot in the later rounds of the event, showed up every week religiously in support of the team. Thank you again to Carlos for the time you dedicate to this, and GW's to all.

First and most important, I would like to thank the organizers of Team League. Many of us really do not understand the immense amounts of time it takes to create an event of this stature and I believe Carlos deserves a lot of credit, so thank you!
I am definitely somewhat of a minority in the virtual sailing world; I'm one of a handful of Canadians left in VSK. I can also count on one hand the amount of times I have sailed IRL and those experiences were generated from VSK itself. I met a guy on here named Bebop (Can) who happens to live in the same city as me (Victoria, BC) and one day he invited me to crew on his Martin 242; believe it or not this was my first taste of real life action. Everything I know about sailing I have learned online with the help of a few friends and some time reading the ISAF RRS and MR call books. Rodmada BWS was my GURU when I first started playing and I give a lot of thanks to him for the patience he gave me when I was that annoying Nadeo who *^*&%$#@!! your race. It is a daily pleasure to race on the water with all of you reading this BIO and I am thankful for the relationships built through this fantastic simulation, in a remarkably friendly community. I have a GF (Tegan) who I am proposing to in Mexico next week and a cat named "Griffin". I'm a registered massage therapist under the health professions act here in BC, Canada and I'm 28 years old.

Afonso
First, I want to thank and congratulate the team for the amazing job, especially Chris for the initiative and commitment to the entire team! Of the 12 skippers, 10 did not know the format and style of this Championship, others were rusty in ACC Fleet Racing or even in VSK.
We managed to build a great team, that at the beginning had difficulties with coordination and organization, but the results show a clear trend throughout all stages, week after week. We also had difficulties in scheduling training or even have all the team present at the races due to the big different time zone. It was also great to meet and spend good hours in TeamSpeak with people who have completely different cultures and ways of being, for example, while some knew the moments to be in order and keep everyone focused when the situation demanded it, others did the whole team laugh for hours in more relaxed moments :) We were able to beat teams that were favorites to win this season and we were not expecting this huge team development!
Finally I want to thank the organization for the championship and to all participants for the interesting and exciting races we did and hope to come back to defend the title: D
My name is Afonso, I’m from Porto, Portugal, and I'm 23 years old. I’ve studied in Architecture University, now I am currently in Management University. I play VSK for a few years now, much like fleet and match racing or team racing, but I like to be able to spend a good time when I play.
In real life I sail since I’m 11 years in various classes and do fleet races, but when I can I do match racing as skipper, because it is what I like to do! I would love to one day be part of a professional sailing team and be able to do what I like every day!
